ABSTRACT:

Liposomes are one among the best drug carrier available in the present scenario. The pharmaceutical field is utilizing this drug carrier in the best way. Its site specific drug delivery property makes it the deserving candidate for targeted drug delivery system. The economical aspect of any product provides an opportunity to decide its utility. The present review tries to explore the economical overview as well as the international market scenario of the liposomes.

KEYWORDS: liposomes, drug carrier, economical, world market

INTRODUCTION:

Liposomes are small, spherical vesicles which consist of amphiphilic lipids, enclosing an aqueous core. The lipids are predominantly phospholipids which form bilayers similar to those found in biomembranes. Liposomes have been widely investigated since 1970 as drug carriers for improving the delivery of therapeutic agents to specific sites in the body. The liposomes containing drugs can be administrated by many routes (intravenous, oral inhalation, local application, ocular) and these can be used for the treatment of various diseases (Weinstein and Leserman, 1984). Liposome is increased stability via encapsulation and reduces exposure of sensitive tissues to toxic drugs. Moreover, Liposomes are biocompatible, completely biodegradable, non-toxic, flexible and non-immunogenic for systemic and non-systemic administrations. High cost, low solubility and short half-life are among the drawbacks of the liposomal drug delivery system. To overcome this, various modifications are been carried out in liposomes which not only enhances the therapeutic activity but as the same reduces the cost accompanied with increase solubility.

WORLD MARKET OF LIPOSOMES:

The liposomes are among the drug carrier being extensively used today.  This category of drug delivery system has occupied a major area in the world market. There is no place in the world left where liposomes have not been marketed.

Among the major areas Western Europe with 13% of the total market dominates followed by North America and South Asia with contribution of 12% and 11% respectively. The area like Oceania is also influenced by the liposomal preparations and contributed approximately 8% to the world market.

Some smaller contributors are also there including Southern Europe (4%), Central America (3%) and South Asia (2%). The domestic markets of liposome’s are also on the cards with 1% of the total contribution.

Associated Business Scenario:5

Every business in the present is carried out by the single motive i.e profit. However, if the single business provides the opportunities of association and profits this adds more feathers to the cap. Apart from providing the possibilities as a drug carrier in pharmaceutical firms, liposomes provide the associated business regarding its trade, manufacturing along with the distribution and wholesaling. Present data indicates that more than 20% of the persons dealing in this business have trading firms to run this vast business. Fig 2 represents the involvement of various persons in this business.

Suppliers of Liposomal Products in World Market:

In the present scenario USA is the leading producer and trader of liposomal based products. USA holds the top rank with 41% of the total world market. Taiwan and South Korea are among the good competitor for USA. Taiwan with 19% and Korea with 14% stood at second and third spot. India too appeared on the frame and started the journey along with Hongkong. Both the countries rank fifth with China holding the fourth spot with share of 10%. France and Spain are those countries which have strong pharmaceutical back ground and as far as the trading of liposomal products is concerned these countries stand at the sixth spot with individual share of 6%.

CONCLUSION:

This review presented the hardest aspect of choice for any material. The best conclusion that can be derived from this review is that the economical prospect always overtakes the choice. The market of any material depends upon its customer and their choice yet, their ability to buy that thing totally depends on its cost. Moreover, this review also indicates the dominance of USA in the liposomal world market.
