ABSTRACT:
Synthesis of Benzimidazole and 2-Methylbenzimidazole from o-Phenylenediamine has been reported by conventional method of heating the reaction mixture on a water bath. Synthesis of Benzoic acid from Benzaldehyde by Cannizzaro reaction has also been reported. The authors of this article have synthesized these compounds by heating the reaction mixture in an autoclave. The yield obtained was found to be greater than that obtained using reported conventional methods, which emphasizes the utility of autoclave in the synthesis of organic compounds. The structure of synthesized compound was confirmed by Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR)
